About the property
In February of 2018, we were blessed to have the opportunity to purchase this beautiful property located in the downtown of Morganton North Carolina. Prior to our ownership, this building originally built in 1930, was most recently the gathering place for worshipers of the St. Mary’s and St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Due to the merger of these two congregations, we were able to take on this new venture and breathe a new and slightly different life into the facility.
A big goal of ours was to maintain major parts of the original craftsmanship of the sanctuary which will be the retail space for patrons to enjoy freshly made baked goods and coffee to start their day. Our hope is that this revitalized space will again become a pleasurable gathering space, and to that we are looking forward to a projected opening date for Divinity Donuts & Bakery in September 2021.
Born and raised in central Pennsylvania, Matt and Betsy Herrington have a passion for baked goods of the Pennsylvania Dutch culture. After finding the perfect location to start the venture, Divinity Donuts & Bakery will provide as much variety as possible while making all products from scratch on premise. Family recipes handed down by generations will be a focal point of the bakery, as established culinary talents from the region will look to perfect the standard of quality for our assortment of offerings. Our menu will also include familiar donut selections, we are hopeful that the Dutch influenced baked goods will be a welcome addition to the Foothills of NC.
We look forward to serving the community and visitors of the area to a welcoming environment to commune, enjoy a sweet bite and a cup of coffee to kick off their day.
